Area Information about Lexington
Lexington is a wonderful place to live! This affordable community is full of small-town charm, yet it is easily accessible to nearby metropolitan areas, including High Point (25 minutes), Winston-Salem (30 minutes), Greensboro (35 minutes), Charlotte (1 hour) and Raleigh (less than 2 hours).
Its claim to fame, however, is its down-home cuisine. Lexington is known as the "Barbecue Capital of the World" for its local restaurants and unique style of barbecue — pork shoulders dipped in a sauce made with vinegar and a hint of ketchup. (You can read more about Lexington-style barbecue in Our State Magazine.) Every year, thousands flock to Lexington to enjoy the local cuisine at the Barbecue Festival.
